Vintage Design

French chandelier of the end of the 19th century, gilded with the technique of fire gilding.
In this Set is proposed next to a pair of 5-flame Appliques, of the same period and also in fire-gilded bronze.

This type of gilding, replaced today by the current galvanic process, consisted of preparing an amalgam composed of gold and mercury applied by pad or spray on the object which was then placed in the oven. The high temperature made the mercury evaporate, allowing only the gold to remain attached to the treated surface.
This chandelier, of fine workmanship has a bronze structure with 8 arms embellished with decorations that although elaborate, infuse sobriety to this beautiful object.

The chandelier was electrified in the 60s at the request of an antique dealer who also carried out the restoration.
