Vintage Design

A large English Regency period fireplace surround executed in Italian Statuary white marble. An exceptional and Finely carved Greek Revival Regency fireplace, the Jambs with carved torchieres, oak leaf, acorns, acanthus leaf and anthemion. The anthemion motif stylised on Honeysuckle or fan shaped palm commonly found in Greek antiquity. The corner blocks again with anthemion carving and sweeping C scrolls, flanking a slim finely carved running frieze of conforming carving with centre Acanthus cartouche. A very well drawn and proportioned piece in very good order. Surrounds of this design are rare and increasingly difficult to bring to the marketplace. We are pleased to offer this surround now that it has been restored, retaining all of its original components. English Circa 1820 Opening sizes 102cm W x 98.5cm H.
