Elegant watercolor on paper by the Catalan artist Antoni de Paula Boix, painted approximately in the 1960s.
The artist presents us with a very typical Spanish landscape, a field of olive trees. Olive trees stand on the ground in earthy yellow and brown colors, one in the foreground and several in the depths. We see the expanse of the field on the horizon crowned by the blue-gray sky. The thick lines and abundant watermarks blur the contours of the figures in a very particular way, creating in some parts of the work a homogeneity that gives a very abstract touch to the work. This contrasts with the marked dark lines of the branches of the first olive tree, creating a stylistic contrast within the same piece that is very interesting.
About Antoni de Paula Boix:
Antoni de Paula Boix (1925 - 2023) was a Catalan painter born in Mataró. He exhibited for the first time in 1950 and from that moment on he began an intense journey in search of his pictorial reality; with periods of work in the shadows for a greater and sincere introspection that defines their personality. Drawing teacher at the School of Arts and Crafts from 1952 to 1958 and at the Pia School of Santa Ana from 1956 to 1958, Antonio de P. Boix alternated teaching work with individual and group exhibitions, in Mataró and Barcelona, ​​with notable success. He masters drawing, oil and watercolor in an agile and free way, which adds a patina of good work in his work, be it landscape, figure, still life or floral theme. Antonio de P. Boix has been awarded countless important awards for his participation in speed painting contests and local and national competitions. He has built his own artistic world. Adhered to the Royal Artistic Circle, he has also participated in the Group of Watercolorists of Catalonia and the Mexican Society of Aquarelists, among others. Place to highlight his participation, since 1984, in the Biennial of artists who had passed through the Mataró School of Arts and Crafts: Jaume and Jordi Arenas, Manuel Cuyàs, Salvador Izquierda, Jordi Puiggalí and Emilia de Torres. He actively participated in the recovery of the annual "San Lucas" exhibition in the seventies.
