Angelo Mangiarotti set of 2 Nero Marquina marble consoles for Skipper in Italy 1970s This is a set of two black marble console tables called "Eros" designed by Angelo Mangiarotti for Skipper in Italy in the 1970s. The tables are part of the "Eros" series and are made of Nero Marquina marble. They have a conical base and an elegant design with organic soft curves. The tables are from the original 1971 production for Skipper and have the original Skipper label affixed to the underside. They are in excellent condition and have subtle veining throughout the stark black marble. The dimensions of the tables are 68 cm wide, 46 cm deep, and 70 cm high, and 55 cm wide, 47 cm deep, and 40 cm tall for the other. The design is an example of Mangiarotti's research on furniture without joints. It features a gravity interlocking design in which the console top fits into the truncated conical legs due to its weight. The word "Eros" refers to the male-female coupling of this interlocking solution, making it an ingenious and elegant design.
