Marco Rocco was born in Grottaglie, a city in the south of Italy, traditional for utilitarian decorative ceramics for more than a millennium. During his childhood, Marco grew up playing with clay in the family factory that produces ceramics and among his adventures emerged the creativity that led him to create his own toys: from imaginative objects to ingenious traps for the lizards that lived around the big factory.
Over the years, Marco became more and more curious about the objects he had around, How does this work? He would disassemble and reassemble everything he saw.
While studying in elementary and middle school, Marco clearly had a great interest in the world of design, later attending the Grottaglie Art Institute instead of the conventional high school. At this stage, Marco put his skills to the test through direct experience in experimental projects and prototypes. Many of the projects, extra curricular developed together with 'teacher and designer Angelo Galiandro.
A few years later, he graduated with a degree in Design from the University of Florence in Italy, collaborating with some internationally renowned studios. He excelled as a designer in creating exceptional products such as the famous Origami kitchen, and projects such as PuzzleCook. He also developed great interior designs for pubs and restaurants such as Convivium restaurant.
In 2011, with his experience, he founded his own studio Marco Rocco in Italy, to create and produce, with the collaboration of ceramic companies, objects that reflect his philosophy and are inspired by his history.
Today, the studio expands in major European capitals, Marco Rocco arrives in South America in style, consolidating his branch in Sao Paulo, Brazil, creating ceramic lamp collections as a "limited edition" and collaborating with furniture companies.
The studio and the fifth generation
The Marco Rocco studio, since 2011 has created projects for large American companies such as Mac Moveis and European companies such as Electrolux. The continuity of tradition in Italian design would not be possible if it were not zealously handed down from generation to generation. In Marco Rocco's case, it all began with his great-great-grandfather, founder of the family workshop, which still bears his name.
Marco Rocco is the fifth generation to perpetuate the family's values and excellence in products that are super current, yet handcrafted, revealing the history of five generations. This tradition can be experienced in the creations of Marco Rocco, objects that are used and experienced by our customers and that we hope will be handed down for generations carrying these values. For this reason our commitment to design starts from the choice of materials to the awareness of creating durable and sustainable objects.
