This is a lovely antique Gothic circa 1850 metamorphic library steps chair in hand carved oak with original rug upholstered steps
A very charming and highly collectable piece, designed as an at home library steps and reading chair, these are used to add a sense of grand occasion to a standard bookcase, this is the first one I have seen in real life that has this level of gothic revival carving, it is an amazing find
The finish is original, we have deep cleaned hand condition waxed and hand polished it, there will be some losses, timber splits and age and use related patina marks all over, it is structurally perfect but shows its age well
