Boxers is an original lithograph on paper realized by the artist Giuseppe Gallo in 2008. Edition 59/260, it is part of the suite ''Olympic Games Beijing 2008''. Excellent condition. Born in Rogliano, Gallo lives and works in Rome since 1976, the same year of his first solo exhibition at the Galleria Ferro di Cavallo. In 1977 he sets up his studio in the Ex-Pastificio Cerere, an abandoned industrial building in San Lorenzo, a district of Rome, where he still works. In 1979 he participates for the first time in an international exhibition, Europa 79, at Stuttgart. The following years he takes part in many national and international shows: exhibitions at the Galleria Ferranti in Rome, at the Groninger Museum in Groningen, at Haus am Waldsee in Berlin in 1981. The following years he enters the New York art scene with a group show at the Annina Nosei Gallery in 1983 and takes part at other exhibitions: Atelier curated by Achille Bonito Oliva in 1984, L’Italie aujourd’hui/Italiaoggi at Nizza and Anniottanta at Bologna in 1985. In 1985 he is invited to participate at the XIIIe Biennale de Paris. Between 1986 and 1992 Gallo inaugurates four solo shows at Sperone Westwater; In the same years he collaborates with L.A. Louver in Venice, Akira Ikeda in Tokyo, Di Meo Gallery in Parigi and Triebold Gallery in Basel. In 1986 he debuts at the Venice Biennale. In 1990 the Venice Biennale devotes a room to his work at the Italian Pavillon. The same year he presents, in Rome at the Gian Enzo Sperone Gallery and then in Milan at the Claudia Gian Ferrari Contemporary Art Gallery, the exhibition Giuseppe Gallo. Oh Vocazione. Five years later he sets up another show at the Claudia Gian Ferrari Contemporary Art Gallery Giuseppe Gallo. Con le unghie della purezza. Seven sculptures Measuring Time and Gallo’s Twenty-four Hours is presented in 1998 at the Galerie Ernst Hilger in Vienna and at the Galerie Di Meo in Paris. In 2001 at Rende, in his native land, Gallo exhibits an in-depth view of his activity as an artist in the exhibition Prova Generale curated by Achille Bonito Oliva, with the Directorate General of Tonino Sicoli and the coordination of Angelo Capasso. The following year Gallo inaugurates an exhibition-installation at the Fondazione Volume! in Rome. In 2004 at Spoleto he presents the first retrospective entirely dedicated to his sculptures Percorso Amoroso curated by Giovanni Carandente. Between 2005 and 2006 there is a succession of solo exhibitions in the most prestigious Italian galleries, Mito-Rito-Sito curated by Rolf Lauter and Mirta D’Argenzio (Galleria dello Scudo, Verona) and Gioco felice di un suonatore di tamburi (Galleria d’arte Emilio Mazzoli, Modena). In 2007 the MACRO, Museum of Contemporary art in Rome, dedicates to Gallo’s work an important show, curated by Danilo Eccher, retracing the last 25 year of his artistic production and exhibiting new and suggestive works. The following year a complete survey on the artist’s work is presented in the solo exhibition curated by Inge Harold and Danilo Eccher at Kunsthalle in Mannheim. In 2008 the Galerie Di Meo in Paris presents the show Giuseppe Gallo. Symphonie en trois mouvements. His works are part of the most prestigious public collections: the Moma in New York, the Museum Modern Kunst Stiftung Ludwig in Vienna, the Contemporain Midi Pirenées in Toulouse, the Groninger Museum, the Fukuyama Museum of Art, the Museum Biedermann in Donaueschingen and the MART in Rovereto
