About This Piece

Interior with Image is an original print realized by the famous artist Hans Bellmer in 1971. Good conditions, except for usual signs of aging. Not signed. The artwork represents a Surrealist composition typical of Bellmer's style: the artist is known for his project on mutated body forms of dolls and their unusual poses. Here, a ''disarticulation'' on the background of a room is represented. Bellmer believed indeed art could stimulate desire in the viewer, and he played with his objects to explore how an artificial figure of a girl could create authentic passion, desire, or fantasy. Hans Bellmer (13 March 1902 - 24 February 1975) was a German artist, well-known for the life-size pubescent female dolls he produced from the mid-1930s. He developed the Surrealist theme of mannequins and dolls as metaphors of sexuality with a singularly obsessive focus.
