About This Piece

A sober and contemporary work, with its black background and the copper shavings that bring color and luminosity. Rizü Takahashi is a ceramist and Japanese tea master met at the Salon National des Beaux-Arts in Paris, Carrousel du Louvre. Impressed by her superb creations where raw simplicity exudes a beauty difficult to describe, all in the pure feeling of the material. I pay homage to him in this canvas from one of his chawans. The light passes through the object in a pure black background. The Kanji 光 means "light": a man kneeling by the fire."
